AREA position paper on RES Directive

Dec. 23, 2009 - To assist the EC and member states in ensuring the successful transition of those aspects of the Renewable Energy Sources (RES) Directive 2009/28/EC, related to heat pumps, into national schemes by 2012 AREA has published a position paper concerning certification or equivalent qualification schemes for heat pump installers.

Germany awards R744 system for its high-efficiency

Dec. 18, 2009 - For the second time the German government rewarded highly efficient refrigeration systems in order to support energy reduction projects and companies. The first place went to thermea. for its high temperature heat pumps using CO2 as the refrigerant.

Europe agrees standards for efficient buildings by 2020

Nov. 24, 2009 - The European Union (EU) agreed to strengthen the building codes already in place in order to reduce their carbon emissions close to zero by 2020. The new requirements aim at reducing the energy bill of buildings but also to achieve greenhouse gases emissions reductions in accordance with the post-Kyoto rules to be decided next month.

New Danish project provides heat pump subsidies

Aug. 05, 2009 - The Danish Energy Agency has announced a research project aiming to measure the effectiveness of energy-labeled heat pumps. The project will award grants of up to 15,000 DKK (about €2,000) to 300 households for the installation of heat pumps that are energy-labeled, while additional funding wil be available for the metering equipment.

Swedish ministry issues HFC tax proposal

Jul. 23, 2009 - The Swedish Ministry of Finance has published a proposal on introducing a tax on HFCs. The proposed tax is expected to decrease emissions by around 0.1 million tonnes of CO2 equivalents by 2020, while a proposed premium to be paid when HFCs are delivered for destruction will contribute to further reductions.

REWE Group: 30% less CO2 by 2015

Jul. 13, 2009 - The first corporate carbon footprint for REWE Group was drawn up in cooperation with Öko-Institut, Germany and the Austrian Federal Office for the Environment. More than 60 percent of the total emissions of REWE Group are caused by the factor "electricity". Important steps have been made by increasing the energy efficiency of the stores and by the switching to green electricity, that has been certified according to TÜV SÜD EE01.

New pressure sensors for heat pumps

May. 04, 2009 - The company Kavlico in Minden, Germany has developed a new version of the PT250 pressure transmitter designed specifically for installation in heat pump systems. Incorporating a piezo-resistive sense element, these extremely rugged, all-welded, 304L stainless steel constructed devices have an integral pipe pressure connection that is welded at the pressure source (see documentation next page).

New zeolite heating unit comes closer to market introduction

Apr. 03, 2009 - A new adsorption heat pump jointly developed by Vaillant and the Chair of Technical Thermodynamics of Aachen University is just under field test and shall now be brought to readiness for marketing. The heat pump uses the working pair water and zeolite and is driven by natural gas. An annual efficiency of 135 percent is expected.
