Germany awards R744 system for its high-efficiency

Dec. 18, 2009 - For the second time the German government rewarded highly efficient refrigeration systems in order to support energy reduction projects and companies. The first place went to thermea. for its high temperature heat pumps using CO2 as the refrigerant.

The German-based company thermea. won the first price in the category "Highly efficient refrigeration systems with halogen-free refrigerants" ("Hocheffiziente Dampfkälteanlagen mit halogenfreien Kältemitteln"). The committee awarded the company's high temperature CO2 heat pump that features highest heating capacity and maximum energy efficiency. Using carbon dioxide as a working fluid, the models for industrial applications feature a Coefficient of Performance of up to 5.5 for heating only and up to 8.0 for heating and chilling service in dependence from the operating conditions. Different models allow a high heat output of up to 4,000 kW and outlet temperatures of up to 80°C.
